The Worshipful Master reminds you that the Stated Communications July 1st, 2019 will be DARK and requests your attendance at the Stated Communication July 15th , 2019
FROM THE EAST:
My Brothers, this year is half over, and we have much to do. You have accomplished much so far. and you should be very proud of your lodge. We are known for how warm and friendly we are, and that is why we attract many visitors that come to our meetings. Practice makes perfect, that you have all heard and it is the truth. Our Junior Steward Robert Segarra has been practicing for the EA degree and it shows. It was his first degree and he did a good job for the 3 new brothers. I know this is only a start for him in doing more degrees. What I want to share with you is our practices are fun and a great time to meet in a relaxed atmosphere come join in. We will be hosting the official DDGM meeting on August 19th and again we need to practice receiving them. Please come out and help make this a success. Remember that we only have one meeting a month for July August and September. on the third Monday in each month. Please be sure to attend so you stay informed about what is going on in our lodge. Summer is officially here, and the heat is on the new air conditioner is doing a great job. We have seen a saving on the lodges electric bill and that helps the bottom line. Enjoy our Florida sunshine be safe and don’t fore get the sunscreen.
Mark E King, Worshipful Master
FROM THE WEST
Your three elected officers, W.M., S.W. & J.W. have all attended Grand Lodge in Orlando, alone with about 1500 other Brothers, we will tell you about what happen, when we get to see each of you in our Lodge room. Our first meeting in June will be 06/03/19, a Stated Meeting. Our 2nd. meeting is to be a Called Communication, for a E.A. Degree. Try to make it, if you can. May 21, at St. Johns Lodge no. 37, two districts came together and Raised five Brothers. What a night. Our June open Books date has not been set as yet but will let all know as soon as possible. As you read this, we will have a New D.D.G.M. in our District, R:.W:. Edward Slauson, from Landmark Lodge no. 383. When you see him, please congratulate him. I am looking forward to seeing each of you in Lodge somewhere this month. Till then, R:.W:. Donald H. Tucker, Sr. Warden.
FROM THE SOUTH
What a crazy month this has been. For those of you who do not attend Lodge, I will attempt to help you catch up.
Grand Lodge has come and gone and for you that are unaware, the Grand Master suffered a heart attack during the proceedings and has ascended to the Celestial Lodge. Above. I’m sure the details of the service will be posted.
To hit the high points of the proposed legislation outcome, per capita will be raised $5 per year for the next 5 years, JW SW and WM must pass MM I II III, JW must pass MLT, coffins will not be allowed in the 2nd part of the MM Degree, and we will be pumping an additional 18.6 million dollars into expanding the Masonic Home in St. Pete. For more detailed information please contact the lodge secretary.
On a much brighter note, we have a new DDGM, RW Edward Michael Slauson and a new Chairman of Committee On Works, our very own SW, RW Donald H.(handsome) Tucker. Congratulations to both of these brothers and I wish them success in their new positions.
In keeping with the” Masons during the Civil War” theme in some of our Masonic Education topics, I would like to pass along a story I ran across recently.
A Brother in Savannah, Georgia reported this story of Civil War soldiers from his Masonic lodge records.
It was a time not long after Fort Sumter, and the War of Northern Aggression was well under way. The Yankees, as they are still wont to do, had promptly flocked to Hilton Head and Tybee Islands, the barrier islands on opposite sides of the mouth of the Savannah River. The Savannah folks didn’t mind much that the Yankees had stolen the good beaches, for the water was still a bit cool for Southern preferences and, besides, they knew the gnats and mosquitoes would teach the Yankees a lesson they’d never forget. So, the Southerners, as Southerners are wont to do sometimes, just waited.
They didn’t have to wait very long before the Yankees on Hilton Head sent out a messenger under a white flag. It seemed that the Yankees had among them a young fellow who had passed through the Fellow Craft Degree before shipping out. The Yanks were just sitting around slapping gnats when it occurred to one of them that, just maybe, there was a nearby lodge that could test him in the Fellow Craft Degree and raise him to that of a Master Mason. As luck would have it, there was indeed a lodge in Savannah that would soon be having a Master’s Degree. One morning, not too many days later, a detail of Confederate Cavalry slipped across the Savannah River into South Carolina and traveled through Bluffton to the shore opposite Hilton Head island. From there they escorted one Fellow Craft Mason and, I believe, a number of Master Masons of the Northern Persuasion, safely through the Confederate Lines, and back through about 35 miles of Confederate defenses to Savannah, where the candidate and his witnesses were delivered into the lodge. The records note that this Brother was indeed proficient in the Fellow Craft Degree, and he was raised to the Degree of a Master Mason. That night another detail of Confederate Cavalry, no doubt Brothers to a man, slipped back across the Savannah River and safely escorted their Brothers back to Hilton Head. Anyway, I have loved this story since the first time I heard it. It clearly demonstrates that, at the darkest period in our Nation’s history, when brothers were killing brothers,
Brothers could still be Brothers.

If you pass this piece of history on to others, please credit the sources. In closing, my monthly mantra, come to Lodge when you can and even if you can’t stay for the meeting, bring the wife and kids out for a great meal. Enjoy the fellowship and time with your Brothers.
Fraternally, Bob Wheeler JW

The dedication address was delivered by Senior Grand Warden, Stafford Caldwell. Following the dedication, Lennon Guy Jordan was installed Worshipful Master for 1928.
