FROM THE EAST

My Brothers, February has come and gone. St. Patrick’s Day, and the first day of Spring, is upon us. We had a busy Feb. Congratulation’s to Brother Lamon R. Owens who became our newest E.A., Special thanks to all the Brothers who stepped UP and did a very fine Degree for this Brother. Congratulations to our newly Raised Brother Jonathan Magill who was Raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on February 20th, at Sanford Lodge No. 62. Thank you, Sanford Lodge, for the courtesy work to Raise this Brother. By the way we had thirty-six Brothers in the Lodge for this night. Thanks to all for coming out and supporting our Lodge and the Officers who work so hard for all of us. Now about March. A stated meeting on Monday 03/02/2020 dinner at 6:00 Meeting at 7:00. We plan to update our Alter and install our Chaplain. There will be some balloting and we will be discussing the possible merger between Halifax 81 and New Smyrna 149. and we will drop down to Fellow Craft Degree, to hear the catechism of two Brothers, who will be soon Raised to Master Mason’s. Be safe in your travels and keep all our Brothers in your Prayers. Till the next time.
R:.W:. Donald H. Tucker, W:.M:.

FROM THE WEST

Greetings from the West
Henry Davis
Senior Warden

FROM THE SOUTH

Hello from the south my Brethren and things are still moving forward in the positive! On the 3rd Saturday of March we will have our first pancake breakfast. I am looking forward to seeing you all there, especially those of you who had volunteered to work. So without further talk let me bring you up to date, so we are all prepared for our next meeting.
Building:
1. We did obtain quotes from a total of (5) cleaning company and on average the Deep Cleaning quotes come to $1,350 to $2,100 total. The bimonthly cleanings $350 to $450 per month. All companies are licensed and bonded, except (1) who is not bonded, but assures me they will obtain it if selected. The top choices are: Kimmie Can Do It, cleaning services and Fresh Start Cleaning Inc.
2. A structural engineer has looked at the roof parapet cables and assures us they do not need replacement, but rust proofing and painting. We will need volunteers for brushing, treating and painting cables.
3. We have received the pricing for the fire escape of $17,500 with 50% as an initial deposit ($8,750). The structural engineer is working with our vendor to get a better price on the aluminum, which in turn will reduce the price.
4. We did call total of (10) vendors for an Air Conditioner service contract with possible relocation of the piping on the kitchen floor. So far to date we have received one quote on service only for $150 for (2) visits per year. All others were no show and/or no answer.
5. Total of (6) vendors were called for quotes on window replacement for the lodge. A quote was obtained for $49,879.84 all other vendors were either no show or could not perform commercial work.
6. We will need to purchase and replacement ceiling fan in the Prep room behind the North/West Door.
7. The 3rd floor storage room in the extreme North is filled with unused items which may be discarded, unless they serve a known purpose.
Kitchen:
1. The Eastern Star will continue to provide meals for our meetings, as per the WM.
2. Saturday Pancake breakfast will begin March 21st and run on the (3) week of every Saturday. In order to make this successful we will need a minimum (7) volunteers, including the (2) stewards. Additionally, if we have less than (5) members including the stewards the breakfast will be cancelled for lack of participation.
3. The stove door is in need of repair as it falls down when opened. I would like to present this to any members who have knowledge of and may repair it prior to me looking at a service company.
4. The Deep Fryers will be relocated in the kitchen, but not for us
Fraternally, Bob Segarra. Junior Warden

FROM THE SECRETARY’S DESK

Brothers, there are still some who haven’t paid their 2020 dues. Please get them into the Secretary as soon as possible. If you pay on Circumscribe please drop an email to the secretary that you did so. We seem to be having a communication problem with Circumscribe letting us know who is paying their dues through them.
At the March 2nd, 2020 Stated Meeting the Craft will dispensing with business in the Master Mason Degree and listen to Brothers Moe and Powel’s Fellow Craft Proficiency.

LODGE HISTORY CONTINUED

Herbert E. Donnelly, Secretary in 1934, served a total of sixteen years in that office until his death in 1951. I make special mention of him here because of his work to refinance the Mortgage. Although attendance was still down and membership dropped to 164, 1934 turned out to be a good year due to action taken on the mortgage. A Committee chaired by Herbert E. Donnelly approached Mr. W. J. S. Carr, holder of the mortgage, and persuaded him to agree to the following: Since 1927 the Lodge had paid $350.00 per quarter interest and had only paid $800.00 on the principal, the mortgage was still $19,200.00, Mr Carr agreed to cut the mortgage to $15000.00, forgive $1445.00 in delinquent interest, To chard no interest on the first $5000.00 of the $15000.00 mortgage, to allow twelve years to pay the first $5000.00 would not begin for 2 years. That interest on the final $10,000.00 would be reduced from 7% to 5%. Needless to say, the Lodge ratified this on November 19th, 1934. The years 1935 and 1936 passed without significant change. Economic conditions were extremely hard. Many suspensions and reinstatements were made involving men who had played prominent roles in history. Many Brothers were destitute, and the Lodge maintained a constant struggle to help them. Membership dropped to 155.  In 1937 the Grand Lodge realigned the Districts and this Lodge was now in the fifteenth Masonic District, of the following:  36 – Apopka, St Johns 37 – Deland,

Sanford 62 – Sanford, Orlando 69 – Orlando, Volusia 77 – Barberville, Eola 207 – Orlando, Halifax 81W – Daytona Beach, St. Cloud 221 – St. Cloud, Oviedo 243 – Oviedo, Daytona Beach 270 – Daytona Beach, New Smyrna 149 – New Smyrna Beach Fl, Winter Park 239 – Winter Park, South Apopka 165 – Winter Garden, Orange Blossom 80 – Kissimmee. The years 1938, 1939, and 1940 passed without significant change. The Brethren did everything in their power to make meetings interesting with entertainment, speakers, and dinners. They held “Smokers” after meetings to discuss efforts to reinstate suspended Brothers and provide Charity. Membership was 156. In 1941 the United States was again at war. Little was recorded in the minutes that year about the war, except that the Grand Master approved cooperation with the U. S. O. and the Masonic Service Association on behalf of military personnel.

To be continued.
